These Challah Dinner Rolls are a MUST make. Not only are they incredibly easy to make, they are beyond delicious. The texture is fluffy while also being slightly dense in a satisfying way.
- 1 1/2 tsp instant dry yeast
- 1/4 cup whole milk, warm
- 1 cup water, warm
- 3 tbsp granulated sugar
- 3 tbsp olive oil
- 1 large egg
- 1 egg yolk
- 3 1/3 cup all purpose flour, or bread flour
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tsp baking salt
Egg Wash
- 1 large egg, scrambled in separate bowl
To a large mixing bowl, add the warm water and instant dry yeast
Mix until yeast is dissolved and bubbles appear on the surface
Whisk in the warm milk
Add the olive oil, eggs and granulated sugar
Whisk again
Fold in the flour, baking powder and salt
You should be able to press the dough with your finger without it sticking. If it sticks, add an additional tbsp of flour until this happens
Rest the dough in the bowl for 1 hour covered with a kitchen towel at room temperature
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and grease a 9x9 square baking pan with nonstick spray or butter
Pull about 2-3 tbsp of dough and form into balls
Add the rolls to the baking pan
Once complete, rest the rolls for 30 minutes (covered)
Brush the rolls with an egg wash
Bake for 28-33 minutes or until the tops and edges of the rolls are golden
Let cool for about 10-20 minutes
Enjoy!
