What is Challah Bread?
Challah Bread is a richer bread because it is made with eggs.
Typically, it is also made with oil rather than butter. This particular recipe uses both eggs and olive oil to make these delicious Challah Dinner Rolls.

How to Make Challah Dinner Rolls
- To a large mixing bowl, add the warm water and instant dry yeast
- Mix until yeast is dissolved and bubbles appear on the surface
- Whisk in the warm milk
- Add the olive oil, eggs and granulated sugar
- Whisk again
- Fold in the flour, baking powder and salt
- You should be able to press the dough with your finger without it sticking. If it sticks, add an additional tbsp of flour until this happens
- Rest the dough in the bowl for 1 hour covered with a kitchen towel at room temperature
- Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F and grease a 9×9 square baking pan with nonstick spray or butter
- Pull about 2-3 tbsp of dough and form into balls
- Add the rolls to the baking pan
- Once complete, rest the rolls for 30 minutes (covered)
- Brush the rolls with an egg wash
- Bake for 28-33 minutes or until the tops and edges of the rolls are golden
- Let cool for about 10-20 minutes

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Just use Gluten Free Bread Flour instead and substitute at a 1:1 ratio.
Of course, the two separate rising times are important to yield light and fluffy dinner rolls.
I highly recommend using olive oil for this recipe, however, vegetable oil should work as well.

First, follow all the instructions including both rising sessions. When it comes time to add the rolls to a baking dish, you will instead add them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Put the tray in the freezer until solid then transfer the rolls to a freezer safe container or ziplock bag.
Store the rolls at room temperature for up to 5 days in a sealed Ziplock bog or airtight container. You can also freeze the rolls in a freezer-safe container for up to 1 month.
Note: Let the baked dinner rolls cool completely before freezing.
