Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
These are the ingredients you will need to make this recipe. However, the measurements can be found in the recipe card below.
- Reese’s Puff Cereal – You can use pretty much any cereal of the same size, swapping at a 1:1 ratio.
- Mini Marshmallows – The larger marshmallows will work, however, I would then convert the measurement to ounces for accuracy.
- Salted Butter – You can also use regular unsalted butter. However, I’d add a pinch of salt to the marshmallow mixture to balance the sweetness.
- Peanut Butter – Any brand of peanut butter will work! Just make sure it’s smooth and creamy.
- Chocolate Candy Melts – Regular chocolate works for melting, however, it may take longer to set.
- Sea Salt Flakes – Optional, but highly recommended for balancing the sweetness and bringing out the rich, chocolate flavor.

Tips to Making the Perfect Krispie Treats Every Time
There are a few key tips and tricks to making sure you get an ideal krispie treat every time you make them.
- First, make sure you are using fresh marshmallows! Stale ones will negatively impact the softness.
- Melt the butter and marshmallows on low heat
- Fold in the cereal off the heat so that the mixture remains soft
- Let the treats fully set so that they are easy to slice and don’t fall apart
- Add salt! It won’t make them taste salty, but actually perfectly balances out the sweetness and strengthens the chocolate flavor
