Holding an M and M Brownie in my hand.

I’m a sucker for a good brownie.

And these brownies…are one of the best I’ve ever made.

The texture is absolute perfect. M&M candies add a nice crunch and contrast to the ultimate fudge brownie.

However, one of my favorite parts about this recipe is how easy and simple it is to make. You will most likely have most of the ingredients in your kitchen already.

Now, let’s get to baking!

Main Ingredients

Ingredients measured out in bowls to make M&M Brownies.

Tips and Tricks to Crinkly Top Brownies

HOT BUTTER – You want the butter to be hot when combining it with the granulated sugar. That helps to dissolve the sugar quickly which is an important factor to create that crinkly and shiny layer on top.

Whisking the eggs – by whisking the eggs prior to adding them to the batter, this also helps to create that crinkly top we all love and strive for when making brownies.

Mixing the batter – DO NOT over-mix the batter, this helps give us that iconic fudge brownie texture.

How to Make M&M Brownies

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F
  2. Line an 8×8 baking pan with parchment paper or spray with nonstick
  3. Add the hot butter, oil and sugar into a large mixing bowl
  4. Whisk quickly until fully combined
  5. In a separate bowl, whisk the 2 eggs before adding into the batter
  6. Once you add the eggs to the batter, also add the vanilla extract
  7. Mix until combined
  8. Add in the flour and cocoa powder
  9. Mix until JUST combined. (You don’t want to over mix the batter so that we get that perfect crinkly brownie top)
  10. Gently fold in the chocolate chips and M&M candies
  11. Transfer to the square 8×8 pan that’s lined with parchment paper

  16. Slice and enjoy!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can this recipe be made gluten free friendly?

Yes! I have used gluten free flour for this brownie recipe. However, you can also use regular all purpose flour at a 1:1 ratio.

What are the best chocolate chips to use?

I like to use semi-sweet chocolate chips that I get from Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods. However, my favorite brand of chocolate chips to use are Enjoy Life brand or Hu Kitchen chocolate. Both are delicious and high quality.

Can I use other types of M&M candies in the batter?

You can try! I have not tested so I am not sure if that will impact the result. However, since most have a similar or same outer coating, it shouldn’t cause any problems. Peanut and Peanut Butter M&M Candies would be delicious to try.

What is the best way to tell that the brownies are done baking?

Stick a toothpick in the center. If no batter comes out on the toothpick, then they are ready to be taken out. The top of the brownies should also be shiny with a crinkly layer on top.

How should I store any leftover brownies?

Store these brownies in an airtight container at room temperature for 3 days (if they last that long). Or store in the fridge for up to 5 days!
