Main Ingredients

These are the ingredients you will need to make this recipe. However, the measurements can be found in the recipe card below.

  • Rolled Oats – Any brand of rolled oats will work in this recipe. Make sure you are not using quick cooking or instant rolled oats.
  • All Purpose Flour – Use your preferred flour brand or what you have access to. To make this recipe gluten-free, swap at a 1:1 ratio with a gluten-free all-purpose flour.
  • Ground Cinnamon – Add a great depth of flavor to the bright apple and berry flavors.
  • Salted Butter – Unsalted butter can be used, swapping at a 1:1 ratio. However, add a pinch of salt along with the butter to balance out the sweetness of both the sugar and fruit.
  • Light Brown Sugar – When measuring, making sure that it is packed into the measuring cup. You could also use Dark Brown Sugar, which would add a richer, more molasses flavor.
  • Granulated Sugar – Any brand of granulated sugar will work in this recipe.
  • Lemon Juice – Added to balance rich sweetness and brighten the natural fruit flavors.
  • Apples – You can use any type of apple for this recipe! Just keep in mind that some apples are sweeter than others. I tend to use apples in the middle range of sweetness.
  • Fresh Raspberries – They will become slightly mashed as you incorporate them with the other ingredients. Try to be as gentle as possible, regardless, it will still be delicious!
  • Fresh Blackberries – Generally keep their form when mixing with the other ingredients. They also hold their shape for the most part in the baking process as well. If any of the blackberries are larger than others, I would cut them in half to be proportionate.

The Best Apples to Use for a Crisp

Any type of apple will work in this recipe. However, there are a few kinds of apples that are more popular than others. The most popular apples are Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, Braeburn or Pink Lady.

Using a mix of tart and sweet varieties along with crisp and softer apple types can create a delicious balance of flavor and texture.

Regardless of the type of apple you choose, do your best to make the thickness and size of the apples are similar to ensure they bake evenly.
