Ingredient Notes
While these are the ingredients you will need to make this recipe, you can find the full details and measurements in the recipe card towards the end of this blog post.
- White Chocolate Chips – Any brand will work, ideally ones for baking so that they melt good.
- Pretzels – Most pretzels shapes will work as they will be broken into smaller pieces. I typically use a “mini” pretzel shape.
- Mini Marshmallows – Jet-puffed is my go-to brand, however, any should work
- Shortbread Cookies – For this specific recipe I used a caramel shortbread that was gift to me, however, a classic shortbread (similar to what is linked) will work perfectly.
- Homemade Caramel Sauce or Store-bought Caramel Sauce

What is Rocky Road?
Rocky Road is a chocolate candy from Australia. It is a classic, no-bake treat with a variety of mix-ins that are mixed into melted chocolate. Once the chocolate sets, you can cut it into chunks.
A typical Rocky Road will contain marshmallows, gummies/lollies and sometimes nuts.
For this rocky road recipe, it uses more unique mix-ins to create the perfect combination of salty and sweet.
The Best Chocolate for Melting
My favorite brand to use for melting chocolate chips is Ghirardelli. However, Nestle brand is also a great option that is accessible.
However, you don’t have to use white chocolate chips, you can also chop up a white chocolate bar and use that.
When melting chocolate, start with 30 second increments stirring in between each. However, it shouldn’t take too long and you don’t want overheat the chocolate, causing it to seize.
