Healthy Chocolate Protein Mousse Recipe
This Healthy Chocolate Protein Mousse is both rich and indulgent in every bite. It is the perfect dessert option that is good for you too with the use of greek yogurt and protein powder. The mousse itself is easy to make, coming out thick and creamy to satisfy your chocolate cravings.

This protein chocolate mousse is indulgent but also good for you too. The chocolate flavor is beyond tasty, an easy to make recipe using just a few ingredients.
By using Greek yogurt, that helps keep this mousse low calorie while still giving a thick and creamy texture.
Adding both chocolate protein powder and cocoa powder, the chocolate flavor is strong, rich and delicious!
Ingredient Notes and Health Benefits
- Greek Yogurt – High in protein, a rich source of calcium, which is essential for maintaining strong bones and teeth and contains live and active probiotics, which promote gut health.
- Maple Syrup – A natural sweetener with antioxidant properties. Maple syrup contains prebiotics, which are non-digestible carbohydrates that nourish beneficial gut bacteria.
- Cocoa Powder – Has antioxidant properties and many nutritional benefits that promote cardiovascular and brain health.
- Chocolate Protein Powder – A great option to help reach our daily protein requirements while also promoting muscle growth and repair (especially after a workout!).
- Vanilla Extract – You can also use vanilla paste if that is what you have on hand.
- Chocolate Chips – I recommend using a dark chocolate chip for the health benefits that dark chocolate provides, such as antioxidants, lowering cholesterol and more!

What makes this chocolate pudding unique?
There are so many great things about this recipe, but a few highlights make this recipe stand out from the rest.
- High Protein – This recipe uses both greek yogurt and protein powder. While it doesn’t taste like a healthy treat, you are fueling your body with the protein and energy it needs!
- Simple – Each ingredient is easy to find and making the recipe couldn’t be more simple. Use an electric hand mixer to combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. After setting in the fridge, you have a thick and creamy chocolate mousse.
- Naturally Sweetened – This recipe uses maple syrup, however, you can omit that completely if desired and prefer a more tart flavor.
Know Before You Start
There are a few tips and tricks that will be helpful in knowing before you make this Protein Chocolate Mousse recipe.
- Not all greek yogurt is the same – Make sure to use a plain greek yogurt and not one that has been flavored, even vanilla, as they are typically a thinner texture. 0%, 2% and 5% Plain Greek yogurts will work in this recipe.
- Use a high quality protein – The protein you use will impact the flavor of the recipe. Make sure to use one that you like! Both vegan and whey protein powders will work in this recipe
- Chill the mousse – the mousse must be put in the fridge or freezer prior to serving. This is what allows the texture to thicken

Hi,
Excited to try this and have a few questions:
1) Can you clarify whether we add an *additional* 1/4 cocoa powder if leaving out the protein powder? Or is it a total of 1/4 cocoa powder?
2) Is agave an appropriate sub for maple syrup, or is something else better?
1) Yes, an additional 1/4 cup of cocoa powder if you are not using protein powder.
2) Agave should work as well! They are similar textures. You can always add a little at a time to find the right sweetness while still maintaining a thick texture.
I hope you enjoy!
