A spoonful of protein chocolate mousse on a spoon.

This protein chocolate mousse is indulgent and tasty. The chocolate flavor is rich and decadent which perfectly contrasts the tanginess of the greek yogurt. I still love making this recipe after all these years because it’s quick and satisfies my chocolate craving.

Ingredient Notes

  • Greek Yogurt – Make sure to use a plain greek yogurt as that is thicker than others or greek yogurt that is enhanced with flavors.
  • Maple Syrup – A natural sweetener that can be swapped out for honey or other liquid sweeteners.
  • Cocoa Powder – I use a dutch-processed cocoa powder which comes out rich and decadent. However, any brand of unsweetened cocoa powder will work.
  • Chocolate Protein Powder – A plant-based protein powder typically mixes best with the other ingredients. However, I have made this with whey protein powder and it’s still delicious.
  • Vanilla Extract – You can also use vanilla paste if that is what you have on hand.
  • Chocolate Chips – I recommend using a dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips for this recipe.

What makes THIS Protein Chocolate Mousse unique?

There are so many great things about this recipe, but a few highlights make this recipe stand out from the rest.

  • High Protein – This recipe uses both greek yogurt and protein powder. While it doesn’t taste like a healthy treat, you are fueling your body with the protein and energy it needs!
  • Simple – Each ingredient is easy to find and making the recipe couldn’t be more simple. Use an electric hand mixer to combine all of the ingredients in a bowl. After setting in the fridge, you have a thick and creamy chocolate mousse.
  • Naturally Sweetened – This recipe uses maple syrup, however, you can omit that completely if desired and prefer a more tart flavor.

Know Before You Start

There are a few tips and tricks that will be helpful in knowing before you make this Protein Chocolate Mousse recipe.

  • Not all greek yogurt is the same – Make sure to use a plain greek yogurt and not one that has been flavored, even vanilla, as they are typically a thinner texture. 0%, 2% and 5% Plain Greek yogurts will work in this recipe.
  • Use a high quality protein – The protein you use will impact the flavor of the recipe. Make sure to use one that you like! Both vegan and whey protein powders will work in this recipe
  • Chill the mousse – the mousse must be put in the fridge or freezer prior to serving. This is what allows the texture to thicken
