Substitutions for the Chicken Breast
Don’t want to bake the chicken breast at home? You don’t have to!
I understand wanting to make this recipe as easy as possible so here are some options to eliminate the extra time and effort of baking the Chicken.
- Buy a Rotisserie Chicken (You can get a great price at Costco or you can find them at your local grocery store)
- Pre-cooked Chicken Breast/Strips (You can buy frozen or refrigerated options at Trader Joe’s or your local grocery store)
- Ground Chicken or Turkey Meat (This is an easier option instead of baking the chicken in the oven and will still taste delicious. Season with the same ingredients that I used for the baked chicken.)
- Deli Meat (Easy and still delicious!)
- Omit the chicken! You don’t have to add the chicken to this recipe, but it is a great source of protein and truly tastes delicious with the other ingredients.
- Want to air fry your chicken? Try this Air Fryer Chicken Bites Recipe from Frozen Bananas!

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! You can use any chicken or deli meat that you have on hand. You can even buy a rotisserie chicken from the store and use that to make the sliders.
I think mozzarella cheese is the best for this recipe because it pairs perfectly with the fresh basil, tomato and balsamic glaze.
However, if you are persistent in using a different cheese, I would recommend using provolone, swiss cheese or gruyere and they should all taste delicious.
You want it to be warm with the mozzarella cheese melted. Once it’s melted, remove from the oven as you don’t want the rolls to burn.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. However, if you are meal prepping these, add the balsamic glaze before eating instead of with the rest of the ingredients.
They shouldn’t, especially if you don’t add the balsamic drizzle to the sliders before storing. However, it should be fine if you do add it.
