Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
Here are some tips as well as ingredient notes to help make this recipe at home. Scroll down to the recipe card to see the full list of ingredients and their measurements.
- Chia Seeds – As they soak overnight, the chia seeds expand, activating the outer gel layer and making them easier to digest.
- Greek Yogurt – A plain greek yogurt is ideal for its thick texture and letting the banana flavor shine.
- Banana – Make sure the banana is ripe so that it is both easy to mash and adds sweetness to the chia pudding.
- Maple Syrup – Great optional for a natural sweetener that also adds some depth of flavor.
- Almond Milk – Any milk will work in this recipe. However, some milk will alter the flavor of the banana chia pudding.

Serving and Topping Variations
The great thing about this recipe is you can adjust the recipe in both serving size and toppings to suit your needs and wants. However, since this recipe uses fresh bananas, I wouldn’t make more than 2-3 servings at a time for ultimate freshness.
For topping variations, there is truly no limit. Since the Banana Chia Pudding isn’t overpowering, it can be paired with nuts, chocolate chips, other fruits and more.

It is very nutritious and a great breakfast or snack during the day that is also high in fiber. It combines nutrient-rich chia seeds with the natural vitamins of bananas.
The biggest reason is usually adding too much milk, creating a bad ratio of ingredients. You want the chia seeds to be able to soak up all the liquid. Another reason was the type of yogurt used. Try to use plain greek yogurt, as it tends to be on the thicker side compared to a vanilla or flavored greek yogurt.
This recipe can easily be prepped for a busy week ahead. Since it has to sit overnight, you can create a batch at the beginning of the week or prepare one at night to enjoy the next day. For ultimate freshness, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.
