Ingredient Notes and Substitutions
These are the ingredients you will need to make this recipe. However, the measurements can be found when you scroll down to the recipe card below.
- Banana – Make sure you are using a ripe banana as it is sweeter and easier to mash.
- Rolled Oats – You can use gluten-free, organic or regular rolled oats for this recipe.
- Cocoa Powder – I love to use a dutch-processed cocoa powder, however, any unsweetened cocoa powder works!
- Chia Seeds – Packed with fiber, plant-based protein, and heart-healthy omega-3 fatty acids.
- Ground Flaxseeds– A rich plant-based source of heart-healthy omega-3 fats and dietary fiber.
- Maple Syrup – I prefer to use a pure maple syrup. Another option is using agave syrup or date syrup.
- Vanilla Extract – Adds a nice flavor that complements the other ingredients well.
- Almond Milk – You can swap this out at a 1:1 ratio with your preferred milk option!

Helpful Tips for Making Overnight Oats
There are a few things you can do ensure your overnight oats come out just right! First, use the right ratio of rolled oats, milk, and chia seeds. Make sure you are measuring the ingredients accurately.
Use old-fashioned rolled oats because they soften to a nice chew. Avoid steel-cut oats, as they stay too hard when uncookable.
Lastly, use dairy or plant-based milk instead of water for a creamier and richer flavor.
