One of my favorite parts and the best parts of fall is enjoying apple cider donuts. They are the perfect fall treat…especially if you buy them hot and fresh at the farm!
My family goes apple picking ever year and I always look forward to getting that warm apple cider donut. The worst part? Only going one time to get them!
That’s why I made this Apple Cider Donut Recipe that is also gluten free friendly. With this recipe, I can make these donuts any time I want right at home.

Whether you fry or bake these donuts, what makes them special are the apple chunks and delicious cinnamon sugar crispness in every bite.

How to Make Gluten Free Apple Cider Donuts
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray the donut pan with nonstick spray
- In a large mixing bowl combine the sugars with the butter, apple cider, vanilla extract
- Mix until fully combined
- Fold in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg until fully combined
- Add the small chunks of apples and fold into the batter
- Using a piping bag or spoon, add the batter into the donut pan
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until donuts are fluffy with the edges lightly browned
- Transfer the donuts to a wired rack that is topped with parchment paper to cool
- Let cool for about 10 minutes before coating
- Combine the cinnamon and sugar together in a wide, shallow dish
- Melt the butter in a wide and shallow dish
- Dip the donuts into the butter then coat in the cinnamon sugar mixture covering all sides
- Enjoy!

Ingredients
Apple Cider Donuts
- 1 cup gluten free flour, or regular all purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup salted butter, melted
- 1 large egg
- 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup apple cider
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1-2 small apples, diced in small chunks
Cinnamon Sugar Coating
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray the donut pan with nonstick spray
- In a large mixing bowl combine the sugars with the egg, butter and vanilla extract
- Mix until fully combined
- Fold in the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg until fully combined
- Slowly stir in the apple cider into the batter
- Add the small chunks of apples and fold into the batter
- Using a piping bag or spoon, add the batter into the donut pan
- Bake for 13-15 minutes or until donuts are fluffy with the edges lightly browned
- Transfer the donuts to a wired rack after 10 minutes in the donut pan
- Let cool for an additional 10 to 15 minutes before coating
- Combine the cinnamon and sugar together in a wide, shallow dish
- Coat the donuts in the cinnamon sugar mixture covering all sides
- Enjoy!

The beginning instructions call for almond milk to be mixed with sugars, butter, cider, and vanilla extract. The card recipe instructions don’t mention almond milk. Is it needed and if so, what amount?
